Mohammad Rizwan’s life was suddenly turned upside down when he was sent home midway through Pakistan’s England series and his mobile phone was taken by investigators. First came speculation about fixing, then reports of dressing-room information being leaked, and later details of an inquiry linked to alleged online betting and gambling.
Through it all, there was little clarity about exactly what he was being investigated for. His absence from Pakistan’s subsequent ODI and T20I squads, followed by the interruption to his domestic participation, left his cricket career in uncertainty.
Now, there are signs that his career could be getting back on track. There has been no official announcement clearing him in the investigation, but the PCB’s decision to allow him to return to domestic cricket is an encouraging development.
Mohammad Rizwan Comeback Gets a Major Boost
SNGPL director of cricket Mohammad Hafeez has confirmed that Rizwan will represent the department against Khan Research Laboratories from October 19 in the final round of the President’s Trophy. Permission reportedly came from the PCB’s director of domestic cricket.
Rizwan is set to return as captain. For a player whose planned participation earlier in the tournament did not go ahead, being allowed to lead his side is a meaningful change.
Nepal Premier League Request Reopened Communication
The latest movement reportedly began after a Nepal Premier League franchise approached Rizwan. Having reached an agreement with the team, he applied to the PCB for a no-objection certificate.
That application brought renewed communication with the board. During the same period, SNGPL approached him about returning for the final round of the President’s Trophy, and permission to play domestic cricket followed.
His Nepal Premier League NOC has not yet been issued. However, the renewed discussions and domestic clearance suggest that his playing situation is beginning to move forward.
Rizwan has also said that he supplied his mobile phone’s password and that the device was unlocked and examined in his presence.
So, Let’s Decode What These Developments Suggest
Would the PCB have allowed Rizwan to return to domestic cricket and captain his team if it believed there was evidence of wrongdoing? That decision strongly suggests that the investigation may not have uncovered anything that would justify keeping him off the field, although no official findings have been announced.
It also raises the possibility that the case could gradually fade away. If the investigation began on incorrect information, acknowledging that would invite uncomfortable questions about how Rizwan was treated. A quiet resolution could allow the controversy to die down without anyone accepting responsibility.
For Rizwan, the domestic return now looks like the first step towards getting his career back on track. With communication improving and restrictions beginning to ease, an international comeback—particularly in Pakistan’s ODI team—appears closer.
