Delhi Property Tax New Rules: New property tax rules are going to be implemented in Delhi. Rekha Gupta Government is gearing up to implement new property tax rules in Delhi. NDMC has drafted the Unit Area Method (UAM) for property tax calculations, proposing a 30% relaxation for senior citizens, women and the physically handicapped. Under the NDMC draft, men aged 65 years or above, women of any age and persons with disabilities will be eligible for a relaxation of 30 per cent. However, this relaxation will be applicable only on construction plots of 100 square meters.

To implement Unit Area Method (UAM) for calculating property tax like MCD, NDMC has prepared its draft and sought suggestions from the public. Citizens, businessmen and others can give suggestions till 23 October.

According to the draft, the property tax will be decided taking into account its use, age of construction, structure of the building, whether it is owned or rented and the infrastructure available in the area. Also, property tax rates will vary depending on the width of the road. At the same time, additional tax will be levied if any plot becomes vacant. However, if there is construction on 25 percent of the plot, then it is proposed to impose normal tax. Along with this, property tax can be paid in lump sum or in four equal quarterly installments.

Public can give suggestions till 23rd October

NDMC Vice President Kuljeet Chahal said that our effort is to simplify the tax system. Therefore, the suggestions that come on the draft will be discussed internally. After this, the draft will be prepared as per the suggestions and placed for the approval of the Council. Notification will be issued after its approval. This notification will be sent to the Parliament for approval. After getting the approval from the Parliament, Municipal Valuation Committee (MVC) will be formed to decide the category of colonies in NDMC area, tax rates and other factors.
