Sports Desk. The Indian cricket team faced challenges on the bowling front in the five-match T20 series against West Indies. The series remained tied at 2-2, while the last match was canceled due to rain. After this performance, former Indian captain and veteran batsman Sunil Gavaskar has given important suggestions regarding the team combination. He believes that instead of looking for a player like Hardik Pandya, Team India should focus on all-rounders like Naman Dheer, who can contribute to the team in different roles.
'It is difficult to find a player like Hardik'
Sunil Gavaskar expressed his opinion after the cancellation of the fifth T20 match in JioHotstar's show. He said that the Indian team often starts looking for an alternative to Hardik Pandya, whereas it is not easy to replace him. If a player of his level is not available, then the team should move ahead and focus on such players who can be useful to the team with their different abilities.
According to Gavaskar, Naman Dheer showed his usefulness in the series against West Indies. He can contribute in batting along with bowling. In such a situation, the team management should consider giving opportunities to all-rounder players like Naman and developing their role.
Do not weaken the bowling in order to prolong the batting.
For some time now, there has been an emphasis on including such players in the Indian team who can bowl a few overs along with batting. This provides depth to the batting, but Gavaskar cautioned that in this effort the strength of the bowling should not be compromised.
He believes that the team should take the field with at least four leading bowlers. The all-rounder can play the role of fifth and sixth bowler. This will maintain the balance of the team and provide additional bowling options if needed.
Team India's next test on New Zealand tour
After the end of the series against West Indies, the Indian team has left for New Zealand tour. According to the given schedule, a five-match T20 series is to be played between the two teams from October 22. In such a situation, the balance of bowling and the role of all-rounders is going to be important for the Indian team.
