The obsession with speed proved costly! Traffic police baton on 441 vehicles in one day in Kanpur

Kanpur. Those who drive fast probably have no idea when the thrill of speed on the road will prove fatal. To curb road accidents, Kanpur traffic police has now adopted a strict stance against speeding vehicles. Under this campaign, on Saturday, October 17, 2026, a total of 441 vehicles were challaned for overspeeding on the major routes of the city. The action caused panic among the drivers.

The traffic police has deployed two interceptor mobiles on National Highway-34, two on National Highway-19 and one on Ganga Barrage. With their help, vehicles violating the prescribed speed limit are being monitored. The objective of the campaign is not only to issue challans but also to prevent accidents and loss of life due to speeding.

Maximum action taken on 244 vehicles on NH-34

According to the data released by the traffic police, 54 trucks, nine buses and 181 four-wheelers and two-wheelers were caught for overspeeding on National Highway-34. A total of 244 vehicles were challaned on this route. At the same time, action was taken against a total of 130 vehicles including three trucks, 11 buses and 116 four-wheelers and two-wheelers on National Highway-19. While running a campaign against speeding vehicles on Ganga Barrage, 62 vehicles were challaned.

Surveillance from heavy vehicles to two-wheelers

While heavy vehicles like trucks and buses were also involved in this action, the crackdown was also tightened on four-wheeler and two-wheeler drivers. It is clear from this initiative of the police that those violating the speed limit on the road will no longer be ignored. Driving at high speed, especially on national highways, can pose a serious threat to other pedestrians.

Police appeal – don't risk your life to save a few minutes

Traffic Police Commissionerate Kanpur Nagar has appealed to the general public to follow the traffic rules. Drivers have been advised not to drive on the wrong side, use helmets and seat belts compulsorily, drive within the prescribed speed limit, always overtake from the right side and follow traffic signals. Besides, instructions have also been given to avoid driving after drinking alcohol.

The question is not just about the challan, but about returning home safely. Rushing to reach the road a few minutes early can take away the happiness of a family. In such a situation, it is important that drivers give priority to their own and others' safety over speed. Traffic rules should not be followed out of fear of the police, but by understanding the value of life.
