Pakistan cricket team’s wicketkeeper-batsman Mohammad Rizwan has got a big relief. Despite being under investigation for allegations of match-fixing, online betting and leaking dressing room information, the PCB has allowed him to play domestic cricket. The decision now allows Rizwan to participate in the ongoing President’s Cup first-class tournament, giving him a reprieve amid the ongoing investigation.
Former Pakistan captain and director and head coach of Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) Mohammad Hafeez confirmed that he has received an email from the PCB’s domestic cricket department, giving Mohammad Rizwan official permission to play the matches starting on October 19. Hafeez said that the fifth round of the tournament will start from October 19, with Rizwan leading the SNGPL team.
After the second Test against England in August, Pakistan batsmen Mohammad Rizwan and Imam-ul-Haq were recalled from the tour and banned from playing domestic cricket. Both the players were questioned by the National Cyber Crime Cell (NCCA) after allegations of leaking dressing room conversations and indulging in online betting. After being dropped from the Test squad midway through the England tour, Rizwan joined the SNGPL squad to lead the side in Shan Masood’s absence. He participated in the team’s training sessions and attended meetings, but the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) ordered him to return immediately, citing an ongoing investigation.
