A new debate has erupted in the state politics regarding the economic condition of Maharashtra. Ganesh Naik, Forest Minister in Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis government and Guardian Minister of Palghar, has claimed that the economic condition of the state is very critical and Maharashtra has a debt of about Rs 11 lakh crore. During a program in Palghar, Naik gave this statement regarding the economic condition of the state, drought crisis and cut in government expenditure. After this statement by a minister of the ruling government, the opposition has got an opportunity to question the economic policies of the government. Shiv Sena (Uddhav) MP Sanjay Raut has also raised questions on wasteful expenditure in the government.
Claims that 80 percent of Maharashtra is in the grip of drought.
Ganesh Naik also mentioned the economic challenges of the state along with the drought situation. He claimed that about 80 percent of Maharashtra is in the grip of drought and serious water problem is arising in many areas. In such a situation, on one hand the state government is faced with the challenge of providing relief to farmers and common citizens, on the other hand there is also pressure to provide funds for development works and various government schemes. According to Naik, considering the economic condition of the state, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has directed all government departments to cut their expenditure by 20 percent. However, Minister Naik also expressed confidence that Chief Minister Fadnavis is capable of handling the economic challenges of the state.
Sanjay Raut targeted the government
After Ganesh Naik’s statement, Shiv Sena (Uddhav) MP Sanjay Raut targeted the state government. He raised questions about the expenditure of ministers and government extravagance amidst the huge debt and drought crisis in the state. Raut also took a dig at the wealth of ministers and alleged financial irregularities. The purpose of his statement was to raise questions on the economic management of the government. The issue of debt has already been important in the financial scenario of the state. The total outstanding debt of the state is estimated to reach approximately Rs 11.02 lakh crore by the end of the financial year 2026-27.
