Nationalist Congress Party MLC Zeeshan Siddique has raised serious concerns regarding security lapses in Maharashtra, stating that he has received four death threats over the past two months without any increase in his protection. His remarks come in the wake of a recent firing incident involving actor Tiger Shroff in Mumbai.
Speaking on October 19, Siddique questioned the adequacy of the state’s security measures and called for stricter protections for public figures and ordinary citizens alike. He also urged further investigation into the 2024 murder of his father, former Maharashtra minister Baba Siddiqui, and demanded the extradition of fugitive gangster Anmol Bishnoi to India for questioning.
Siddique explained that his family has appealed to the US government to assist with Bishnoi’s return, but the Mumbai Police have not yet had the chance to interrogate him. “Whether it is the Bishnoi gang or any other, including Anmol Bishnoi, we have made every possible effort. My family and I have urged the US government to facilitate the return of Anmol Bishnoi to India. Despite this, the Mumbai Police have not even had the opportunity to interrogate him,” he said.
He also called for direct custodial interrogation of jailed syndicate leader Lawrence Bishnoi, connected to his father’s murder. “As for Lawrence Bishnoi, I believe he is currently held in a jail in Gujarat. We strongly advocate for his interrogation as well. If there are claims that he was involved in my father’s murder, it is crucial to uncover who the mastermind was,” Siddique added.
Highlighting his personal security concerns, Siddique asked, “If actors, politicians, and businessmen are not safe in Mumbai, how can the general public be? I have received four threats in the last two months, yet my security has not been increased. Is the government waiting for Zeeshan Siddique to be shot before they consider enhancing security? This is deeply unfortunate, and I believe the government must take the strictest possible measures.”
He reiterated the ongoing quest for justice in his father’s 2024 murder case, stating, “It is highly unfortunate that such things occur in a city like Mumbai, a city often called the ‘city of dreams.’ My father was murdered; this happened in 2024, and even now, we are still seeking justice everywhere; we remain hopeful for justice. But this should never have happened. It is crucial for the government to provide an answer.”
Siddique questioned public safety more broadly: “If I, as an MLA, receive constant threats and my security is not increased, then how can the general public possibly feel safe?” He criticized the state government for its handling of repeated violent incidents, stating, “It is deeply unfortunate that such incidents are happening to actors and politicians alike. This represents an intelligence failure, and the government must be held accountable.”
Earlier on Sunday, Mumbai Police reported that three to four rounds were fired at Tiger Shroff’s vehicle as he was leaving a ground where a large crowd had gathered. The shots came from within the crowd. Tiger Shroff was not hit and did not sustain any injuries, though his driver was wounded in the firing.
The case falls under the jurisdiction of Juhu Police Station, and authorities continue their investigation.
