‘Student of the Year: After Dark’ is the new web series of Karan Johar’s popular ‘Student of the Year’ franchise, directed by Reema Maya and starring Shanaya Kapoor in the lead role (double role).
This series will be released on JioHotstar on 13 November 2026. Leaving behind the old glamorous and glitzy world of ‘St. Teresa’s’ school/college, this series is based on a deep mystery, horror, violence and tough competition. The story of the series will show complex relationships, tensions between students and the world of privileged youth. Its treatment is said to be inspired by series like Class and Euphoria. Karan Johar has shared a post on his Instagram account in which he has shown the teaser of the film.
Now, seven years later, there is a new entry in this franchise – ‘Student of the Year: After Dark’. Produced by Dharmatic Entertainment. Shanaya Kapoor will enter the world of web series through this show being made under the direction of Reema Maya. Like the films, this web series is also based on St. Teresa’s College. However, the story of this series of JioHotstar is more serious and dark, in which actors like Divik Sharma and Manya Grover are involved.
Filmmaker Karan also told that Shanaya will play a double role in this upcoming series. He said in a statement, “We started this franchise in 2012 with big dreams and now we are breaking all the rules of our own making. With Reema’s path-breaking direction and Shanaya’s powerful double-role performance, we are preparing to present something spectacular.”
Filmmaker Reema Maya has directed award winning short films like ‘Counterfeet Kunku’ and ‘Nocturnal Burger’. He told that this show will not be what the audience is expecting from this franchise. He said, “This is a completely new take on ‘Student of the Year’, which has been presented as a thriller competition web series. We had a lot of fun working on the music of this show. Its cast is young and extremely talented.”
When did the two parts come?
The first film Student of the Year was released in the year 2012. Its story revolves around St. Teresa’s College students Rohan Nanda, Shanaya Singhania and Abhimanyu Singh.
