BCCI Chief Selector Selection Process: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced on Monday (October 19) that former spinner Ramesh Pawar has been included in the Senior Men’s Selection Committee. After the end of Ajit Agarkar’s tenure, one post in the selection committee became vacant. BCCI had invited applications to fill this post. Now after completion of all the process, Ramesh Pawar has been selected for this post. However, the interesting thing is that Ramesh Pawar will not be the chief select of the Indian team.
Pragyan Ojha has got this responsibility in his place. Now the big question is that when Ramesh Pawar entered the selection committee in place of Ajit Agarkar, then why was Pragyan Ojha made the chief selector? Ajit Agarkar was the first Chief Selector, so Ramesh Pawar, who came in his place, should get his responsibility. In such a situation, let us know the reason behind this…
Why did Pragyan Ojha become the Chief Selector?
Actually, the Board of Control for Cricket in India i.e. BCCI appoints 5 members in the Senior Men’s Committee. Any one of these 5 members is made the Chairman of the Selection Committee i.e. Chief Selector. However, it is not decided by any election or voting, rather there are separate rules for it. Actually, BCCI chooses former cricketers for the post of selector. In such a situation, the Chief Selector is selected on the basis of seniority.
According to BCCI rules, out of the five members of the selection committee, the player who has played the most test matches will be given the responsibility of chief selector. Pragyan Ojha is the player who has played the most test matches in the current selection committee. He has played 24 test matches for India in his career. Apart from this, he has also played 18 ODI and 6 T20 matches. At the same time, the rest of the committee members have played less test matches than Ojha.
Who played how many tests in the selection committee?
Apart from Pragyan Ojha (Chairman), BCCI’s Senior Men’s Selection Committee includes 4 other members Shiv Sundar Das, RP Singh, Ajay Ratra, Ramesh Pawar. Shivsundar Das has played 23 Tests and 4 ODI matches, while Ajay Ratra has played 6 Tests and 12 ODI matches. Apart from this, Ramesh Pawar has played 2 Test and 31 ODI matches for India. Whereas, RP Singh has played 14 Tests, 58 ODIs and 10 T20 International matches. By the way, RP Singh has played more international matches than Pragyan Ojha. However, BCCI gives more importance to Test matches, due to which Pragyan Ojha was made the Chief Selector.
