New Delhi, October 20 (IANS). Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal on Tuesday described the GI tagged seabuckthorn fruit from Ladakh as a treasure trove of nutrients and said it has the potential to empower the livelihood of local people and promote health globally.
On social media platform
“The GI-tagged seabuckthorn of Ladakh is a wonderful gift of nature,” he said. Further adding that it can help strengthen the livelihoods of local people and improve health globally.
Along with this post, Goyal also shared a video which shows seabuckthorn. Because of its color it is also called 'Ladakh Gold'.
The video shows the search for gold in Ladakh, which leads to an extremely beautiful valley located at an altitude of approximately 12,000 feet, where seabuckthorn grows.
According to the post, these beautiful seabuckthorn plants are found at an altitude of 12,000 feet.
According to the video, “These plants are often found in hot areas, but due to some special features of nature, this area has become home to a different kind of 'gold'.”
It further explained, “This is 'Seabuckthorn', which is called 'Ladakh Gold' because of its color. It is not just a fruit, but a 'superfruit' that can survive even in the extremely harsh and unique climate of this region. It develops certain antioxidants in it, and it has ten times more Vitamin C than lemon. That is why its taste is so different and special.”
At the end of the video, tourists visiting Ladakh have been advised to taste this fruit.
Apart from this, on Monday the Minister flagged off the first consignment of JCB machines made in Pune to New Zealand.
He also praised the India-New Zealand FTA (Free Trade Agreement) and said that it is opening new opportunities for our manufacturing sector.
