He is the hero. His splendour, dominating the streets of Calcutta, the streets of the suburbs, has represented a powerful Bengali passion on the world stage for decades. Bengali is where the hero is. Beyond Bengal, the cultural organization of expatriate Bengalis 'Tero Parvan' is celebrating Uttam Kumar's birth centenary in Brussels, Belgium on Durga Puja. Bengali emotions, memories and nostalgia surrounding the legendary actor have been highlighted in their puja this year.
About 7,660 km. This is the distance between Bengal and Belgium. But if the color of the Bengali sky changes, the mind of the expatriate Bengalis is also shaken! Pooja is not a return to home or roots. So what! When Dugga Ma comes to her father's house, the distance of more than seven and a half thousand kilometers disappears in an instant. Brussels and Bengal meet in Eklahma. And it is from this emotion that the organization of expatriate Bengalis 'Tero Parvane' started its journey in 2021. It was in the capital of Belgium that the worship of Goddess Dasbhuja began. This year is their sixth year.
On 17th October, the puja started with the chanting of the Veda Mantra. Dance performance on popular song by Uttam Kumar. Renowned classical musicians from Calcutta have also visited there. And Bengali means there will be arrangements for pleasure. After the puja, the special attraction is the Vijaya Sammilani. They also celebrate Diwali. Not just pujas or other cultural events. They spread the Bengali language in foreign soil with the collected money. And in this way, even in foreign countries, the soil of Bengal, the festival of Bengal has developed itself in its own way. Durga Puja in Bengal is universal. And better. This year, two passions have come together.
