The detention of Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) conveners Ashutosh Ranka and Saurav Das has raised questions about the use of preventive detention, the independence of executive magistrates and the right to protest in Delhi.
While the BJP has questioned the movement’s political intentions and defended legal procedures, the CJP argues that its leaders are being penalised for challenging the government.
The debate comes amid protests demanding Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar’s resignation and opposing the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. In the latest edition of YouTube show AI with SanketThe Federal spoke to Supreme Court advocate Kapil Madan, CJP spokesperson Pranav Dhavan and political analyst and BJP leader Pramod Swami on the legality of the detentions, the administration’s response and the political direction of the movement.
