Vincent Kompany’s availability for Bayern Munich’s Champions League blockbuster against Arsenal was in doubt on Tuesday, as the Belgian has been battling a viral infection and related hip problems.

However, the Belgian coach now appears set to take his place on the touchline on Wednesday night, barring any further setbacks.

According to Bild, Kompany led a 45-minute light training session at Bayern’s Säbener Straße training ground on Wednesday morning, meaning that he should be able to take charge of his side against the Gunners.

The 40-year-old was forced to spend most of Saturday’s 6-1 win over RB Leipzig sitting down due to the hip problems, while assistant coach Aaron Danks stood on the touchline, shouting instructions to the players.

Danks also stepped in for Kompany at Tuesday’s training session and pre-match press conference as the Bayern boss continued to recover from his illness.
