Como handed Manchester United a second successive Champions League defeat on Wednesday, winning 4-1 at the Stadio Giuseppe Sinigaglia as Nico Paz scored twice and supplied an assist for Cesc Fabregas’ side.
Michael Carrick’s team, beaten 2-0 by Atletico Madrid last week, fell behind in the second minute. Lucas da Cunha picked out Paz near the edge of the penalty area, and the Argentine created space past Harry Maguire before curling a left-footed shot beyond goalkeeper Senne Lammens.
United struggled to impose itself on the contest and went into the interval trailing 1-0. Carrick introduced Carlos Baleba and Amad Diallo at half-time, but the changes did little to halt Como’s momentum.

Four minutes after the restart, Paz turned provider, threading a pass through the United defence for Anastasios Douvikas, who lifted his finish over Lammens to double the lead.

Paz struck again in the 57th minute. Winning possession from Baleba in a dangerous area, the midfielder advanced towards goal and bent his shot beyond Lammens to put the home side three goals clear.
Como continued to find openings against United’s defence. In the 76th minute, Kaiki delivered a cross from the left, allowing centre-back Jacobo Ramon to arrive unmarked and head home the fourth.
Substitute Joshua Zirkzee pulled a goal back for United in stoppage time, meeting Amad’s delivery, but it offered little consolation after the visitors had been comprehensively outplayed.
The result marked another setback for Carrick, whose side has now conceded six goals across its last two Champions League fixtures while scoring just once. United has also managed only one victory in its last 11 away matches in the competition.
For Como, which was playing in Italy’s fourth division seven years ago, the victory was another significant moment in its first Champions League campaign. It was Como’s second win in three league-phase matches.
