Amit Shah pays tribute to martyrs on Police Memorial Day

New Delhi. Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday paid tribute to police martyrs at the National Police Memorial in Chanakyapuri, New Delhi on the occasion of ‘Police Memorial Day’. Amit Shah also flagged off a motorcycle rally from the capital. CRPF Director General Gyanendra Pratap Singh informed him about this rally.

The motorcycle rally includes around 90 police riders from Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi, central armed police forces (CRPF, CISF, BSF, SSB, ATBP and NSG) and some central police organizations (RPF, NDRF and NIA).

The initiative is part of a nationwide rally called ‘Fight Against Drugs’. In this, police riders from all the states, union territories and central forces will gather at Ekta Nagar in Gujarat on October 31 and take part in the ‘Ekta Parade’. ‘Shaheed Pustak Rakshak Toli’ also paid tribute to the martyrs. This is a special squad of police, whose job is to protect and present the ‘Shaheed Book’ during programs.

Like previous years, this year too ‘Police Memorial Day’ will be celebrated across the country to pay tribute to the police martyrs. The main event will be held at the ‘National Police Memorial’ (NMP) in New Delhi, where there will be a joint parade of Central Armed Police Forces and Delhi Police.

According to the statement, on this occasion, several programs will be organized by the Central Armed Police Forces and the Central Police Organization at the National Police Memorial from October 22 to 30. These will include visit of families of martyrs, performance by police band, motorcycle rallies, ‘Race for Martyrs’ blood donation camps, essay and painting competitions for children, screening of video films depicting sacrifices, valor and services of police personnel.

Let us tell you that on 21 October 1959, 10 brave policemen sacrificed their lives in the attack by heavily armed Chinese soldiers in Hot Springs, Ladakh. Since then, October 21 is celebrated every year as ‘Police Memorial Day’. Recognizing the sacrifice of police personnel and their important role in maintaining national security and integrity, the Prime Minister had dedicated the ‘National Police Memorial’ located at Chanakyapuri, New Delhi to the nation on the occasion of ‘Police Memorial Day’ in 2018.
