Patiala, October 23, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)
Punjab has recorded 510 stubble-burning incidents up to October 22, with environmental compensation imposed in 184 cases as the state continues its campaign to curb crop-residue burning, according to a report by the Punjab Pollution Control Board (PPCB).
The report said physical inspections had been carried out in 467 cases, while stubble burning was confirmed at 195 locations. Environmental compensation amounting to ₹9.30 lakh has been imposed, of which ₹4.93 lakh has been recovered.
Tarn Taran accounted for the highest number of reported incidents at 247. Of these, 229 were physically inspected and environmental compensation was imposed in 97 cases.
Amritsar recorded 136 incidents, with inspections conducted in 127 cases and compensation imposed in 51.
Among other districts, Gurdaspur reported 32 incidents, Ferozepur 26, Kapurthala 18, and Fazilka and Jalandhar nine each. Patiala recorded five incidents, four of which were inspected, while compensation was imposed in three cases.
The PPCB report also noted that records regarding the role of nodal officers and other concerned staff had been documented in four cases.
As part of the enforcement drive, warning notices were issued to 227 nodal and supervisory officers. Four FIRs were registered and 166 red entries were made, while no departmental charge sheets or suspension orders had been issued against the officers concerned, according to the report.
The district-wise figures in the report do not appear to fully correspond with the overall state tally, indicating that the data may require further verification.
The administration continues to monitor agricultural fields and take enforcement measures against violations. The reported incidents, despite inspections and penalties, underline the continuing challenge of eliminating stubble burning during the paddy harvesting season.
