Big discrepancy in Pilibhit voter list of Uttar Pradesh, dispute over 10,470 applications

A large number of irregularities have been found in the voter list of Pilibhit assembly constituency of Uttar Pradesh. Of the applications filed for changing voter details, 10,470 applications were approved; But, the applications and supporting documents related to these entries were not found in the office. In this case, legal and departmental action has been ordered against two election registration officers, and computer assistant Anil Kumar has been fired from the job.

According to the office of Uttar Pradesh Chief Election Officer Navdeep Rinwa, between May 31 and August 29, 2026, computer assistants had registered 13,779 Form-8 applications to change the details of voters. Of these, 10,470 applications were approved, while 3,309 applications were rejected. The case was investigated due to non-availability of documents related to the approved application.

According to Pilibhit District Collector Alok Kumar, after the initial investigation, a departmental inquiry has been started against Sub-Divisional Magistrate Mayank Goswami and Hemant Chaudhary. During the investigation, both these officers were responsible for preparing the voter list. Further legal action will be taken under Section 32 of the Representation of the People Act, 1950 and relevant provisions of the Indian Penal Code.

The issue came to light after complaints were received that after some voters entered numbers on their photo identity cards, information of other voters was visible. Congress has alleged that despite the names and father's names of 13,150 voters in Pilibhit Sadar Assembly constituency being different, their voter identity card numbers are the same. Samajwadi Party has also expressed concern over alleged irregularities in the voter list.

In view of these allegations, the election authorities have directed the concerned officials and voter registration center operators to immediately remove them from the work related to voter list. Also, orders have been given to examine in detail Form-6 for inclusion of names and Form-7 for deletion of names filed between April 10 and October 21.
