Shiv Sena MP shared photo

Deora also shared its picture on microblogging site X, in which smoke is clearly visible coming out from one place. they wrote, "While going to Parliament, I saw thick smoke rising from behind North Block. It seems like there is a fire. Hope everyone is safe and the emergency services are working quickly."

Fire has happened near Parliament before

Fires occur very rarely around the Parliament complex. Earlier in May 2022, a minor fire had occurred during the construction of the new Parliament building in Central Delhi. Then a safety net caught fire, five fire tenders were sent to extinguish it. The fire staff present inside the Parliament had brought the fire under control even before the fire brigade arrived.

Similarly, incidents of fire have also come to light in three temporary shelters built for laborers in the Central Vista Project. It was fortunate that this time too the fire was small and was extinguished in time, otherwise a major accident could have happened.
