Mint or Tomato-Onion Chutney:
For morning breakfast, opt for Ragi (Madua) or Oats Dosa instead of ordinary rice dosa. Ragi is rich in fiber and calcium, which releases glucose slowly into the blood. Use mint or tomato-onion chutney in place of coconut chutney, and add green vegetables like drumsticks, pumpkin and beans to the sambar.

Lentils and Foxtail Millet:
At lunch, replace white rice with brown rice, foxtail millet (kangni) or porridge. The low-glycemic index of millets is helpful in preventing sugar spikes. Along with this, consume pappu (lentil) or rasam, which contains tamarind, black pepper and cumin which improves digestion.

Multigrain Idli:
Steamed chana sundal (chana chaat) is a great high protein and low carb option instead of fried items for evening snack. Dinner should be light, which can include multigrain idli and vegetable-rich upma.

Simile:
Instead of the usual semolina, make upma by adding oats or broken wheat (daliya) rich in fiber and vegetables like beans, carrots and peas.
