Mahendragarh There are many such historical buildings in Haryana, about which very few people know. There is one such historical monument present in Narnaul of Mahendragarh district, whose structure still surprises people. Its similar looking doors and winding paths can make anyone lose direction. Let us tell you that this buildingChor GumbadKnown as '. Yes, so let's talk about it in detail today…
It was built by the Afghan nobleman and merchant Jamal Khan as his mausoleum during the reign of Sultan Firoz Shah Tughlaq of the Delhi Sultanate (1351–1388 AD). This building is considered to be about four hundred years older than the famous Bhool Bhulaiya of Lucknow.
Unique structure with 20 doors
The most special thing about Chor Gumbad is its architecture. Its four walls have five arched passageways each, making a total of 20 doors. The size and shape of these doors are almost the same. Frequent turns in the corridors confuse people and it becomes difficult to identify the right path. Due to being deserted for a long time, this building had become a hiding place for bandits, thugs and thieves.
People who came to catch them also used to get entangled in its paths. For this reason, it came to be known as Chor Gumbad at the local level. It was also sarcastically called 'Sahukar Gumbad'. Historian Professor R. Nath, in his book History of Mughal Architecture, has described it as an important example of Tughlaq period and early regional Afghan architecture. Local artisans built it from gray stones of the Aravalli region. Its outer walls are wide at the bottom and curved inward at the top.
The building was once visible from a distance
Chor Gumbad, built on a high hill, was visible from a distance. According to historians, at that time grand buildings were considered a symbol of influence and prestige. For this reason, this monument was also seen as the identity of Narnaul in ancient times.
