MLC Election Result: BJP got a big blow in Modi's stronghold, SP's 'Lal' again hoisted the flag of victory, Pramod Mishra lost the election.

Varanasi MLC Election Result 2026: Samajwadi Party has maintained its dominance on the Varanasi Block Teacher seat of the Legislative Council in Prime Minister Narendra Modi's parliamentary constituency Varanasi. SP's Lal Bihari Yadav has won the teacher MLC election for the second consecutive time. He defeated BJP candidate Dr. Pramod Mishra by a margin of 5,015 votes.

Lal Bihari Yadav got a total of 11,612 votes, while Dr. Pramod Mishra of BJP got 6,597 votes. After this victory, there was a lot of enthusiasm among SP workers. The supporters celebrated the victory by shouting slogans, playing drums and distributing sweets. The process of congratulating each other continued between the workers and supporters till late night.

Could not save old vote bank even after joining BJP

Dr. Pramod Mishra's performance in this election is also being compared with his 2020 election. In 2020, he contested the elections as a teacher leader and got 6,830 votes. Pramod Mishra joined BJP just before the elections. After joining the party, it was believed that he would get the benefit of the organization and pro-BJP votes and the contest could go in his favor.

But the results presented a different picture. This time, Dr. Pramod Mishra got only 6,060 votes in first preference votes. That means he lagged behind in comparison to the votes received in 2020. However, in the final result he got a total of 6,597 votes.

BJP could not take lead in front of Lal Bihari Yadav

Lal Bihari Yadav took a clear lead over his nearest rival by securing 11,612 votes. For the teacher MLC elections, SP had made preparations from the very beginning at the level of organization and strategy. The results indicated that the party was successful in creating better coordination with its traditional support in this election.

What did Lal Bihari Yadav say after victory?

After victory in MLC elections, SP's Lal Bihari Yadav expressed gratitude to the teachers. He said that he will always stand with the teachers.

BJP got a big blow

Varanasi is the parliamentary constituency of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. In such a situation, the defeat of the BJP candidate here is being seen as a political setback for the party. However, the social and political equation of teacher MLC election is different from the general assembly or Lok Sabha election and its voters mainly belong to the teacher class.

SP's claim strengthened by second consecutive victory

Lal Bihari Yadav's second consecutive victory has strengthened SP's position on the Varanasi Block Teacher seat. On the other hand, this question has definitely arisen before BJP that why Pramod Mishra could not increase his support for 2020 even after joining the party.

At present, the biggest political message of this election is that despite the strong political influence of BJP in Varanasi, SP has retained its hold on the teacher MLC seat. The victory of Lal Bihari Yadav has boosted the enthusiasm of SP workers, while for BJP this result may indicate a review of its hold among the teaching class.
