MLC Election Results 2026: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has targeted Congress over the results of Legislative Council (MLC) elections held in four states. Posting on social media platform X, he questioned how many seats Congress got when the elections were conducted through ballot paper. This comment of PM Modi is being seen in the context of Congress’s demand to conduct elections through ballot paper.
What did PM Modi write on X?
In his post, Prime Minister Narendra Modi mentioned 28 Legislative Council seats of Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Bihar and Karnataka. He told that elections on these seats were held through ballot paper. After this he asked questions about Congress’s victory and also shared an emoji with the post. His comment has again brought the ongoing political debate regarding the electoral process and the performance of Congress into discussion.
Congress targeted over demand for ballot paper
Congress has been raising questions from the Central Government and the Election Commission for a long time regarding alleged irregularities in the electoral process. Many party leaders have raised questions on the use of Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) and demanded voting through ballot paper.
In such a situation, the Prime Minister’s comment after the results of the MLC elections is being seen as a political taunt on this demand of the Congress. However, the results of these elections in themselves are not the basis for any comprehensive conclusion on the reliability of EVMs or ballot papers.
Elections held on 28 seats in four states
Voting was held for a total of 28 Legislative Council seats in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Karnataka and Maharashtra. These elections included seats from teacher and graduate constituencies. Voting took place on 23 October 2026, while the results of counting started coming out on 27 and 28 October.
According to available reports, Congress contested elections on 12 seats, but did not win any seat. Final results for all seats were not immediately available as counting of votes continued in some constituencies.
BJP-JD(S) alliance wins all four seats in Karnataka
In Karnataka, BJP and JD(S) alliance won all four Legislative Council seats. This demonstration shocked the ruling Congress in the state. The alliance retained the seats held by the BJP, while the JD(S) defeated the sitting Congress member in the Bengaluru teachers constituency.
BJP and SP got success in Uttar Pradesh
During the Legislative Council elections in Uttar Pradesh, BJP and Samajwadi Party won many seats. Both parties got success in the results of different constituencies, while counting of votes was going on in some seats. Therefore, the final figure of all the seats should be seen only on the basis of the declared results of the respective constituencies.
Jan Suraj opened account in Bihar
During the elections in Bihar, Jan Suraj Party opened its account in the Legislative Council by winning the Darbhanga teacher constituency. The party candidate defeated sitting MLC Madan Mohan Jha of Congress. At the same time, BJP, RJD and independent candidates also won some other seats in Bihar. Counting of votes was also going on for five Legislative Council seats of Maharashtra. In such a situation, the situation was not completely clear at that time regarding the final results of the state.
Political atmosphere heated up before November 1 rally
Congress and opposition INDIA alliance have announced to organize ‘Vote Bachao-Desh Bachao’ rally on 1 November 2026 at Ramlila Maidan in Delhi. This rally is said to be focused on the opposition’s questions related to the electoral process and the issue of alleged irregularities.
The Prime Minister’s comments have further intensified the political rhetoric amid the results of the MLC elections. At the same time, Congress leader DK Shivakumar has talked about reviewing the election results and deciding the future strategy.
