Samajwadi Party's crushing defeat in Bareilly-Moradabad teachers MLC elections has raised questions on the activism of the party's public representatives. Despite having six MPs and 19 MLAs in the division, SP candidate Danish Akhtar got only 3,996 votes, while BJP's Dr. Hari Singh Dhillon secured 21,672 votes and won by 17,676 votes.
The SP candidate got only 11.36 percent of the total votes. The party was expected to perform better in this constituency consisting of nine districts, but the results were the opposite.
After the defeat, brainstorming has started in SP regarding election strategy and role of organization. Party's Moradabad in-charge and chief election agent Firoz Khan admitted that there were mistakes in checking the voter list and election campaign. He said that the workers did not show the expected interest in the elections. Its report will be submitted to the state leadership.
In the 2020 elections, SP supported candidate Sanjay Mishra got 4,864 votes. This time, despite the party having 25 public representatives instead of 18, the candidate got 868 less votes.
This result has raised questions on SP's election preparations. Now the challenge before the party leadership is to activate the organization and improve the strategy for the upcoming elections.
