This order in more time
AMPSTAR 4×2 and 6×4 tractor trucks AutoCertified under Central Motor Vehicle Rules (CMVR) by Motive Research Association of India (ARAI). Hence, these trucks meet the required safety, performance and regulatory criteria to be used on Indian roads. The order comes just over a month after the brand was introduced. Hence, AMPstar trucks have now entered the stage of actual use from the stage of introduction in the market.
Part of an integrated transport system
The ‘AMPstar 4×2 55 Ton Tractor Truck’ is designed to work in India’s tough commercial conditions. The truck has a peak power of 430 kW and a peak torque of 2,600 Newton-meters. These 100 tractor trucks will be part of the integrated transportation system at JSW Cement Limited. Clinker and slag will be transported from Nandyal in Andhra Pradesh to Vijayanagar in Karnataka over a distance of about 330 km.
Approximately 1.25 lakh tonnes of goods will be transported on this route per month. JSW Eco-Mobility, a subsidiary of JSW Greentech, will supply the batteries for these trucks. Also, it will create a separate transport corridor on Vijayanagar to Nandyal route. There will be four battery replacement centers along the route.
It is estimated that this transportation system will save around 4.5 crore liters of diesel over the entire contract period. Also, carbon dioxide emissions will be reduced by around 6,250 tonnes.
Electric tractor truck introduced for the first time
“The 55 tonne electric tractor truck was introduced for the first time at the launch of our AMPSTAR brand. It is a very challenging vehicle in the commercial transport sector. A little over a month after the launch of the brand, we have reached a milestone. The first 100 trucks are being used for industrial cargo of ‘JSW Cement’.
JSW Eco-Mobility is assisting in this work as Battery-as-a-Service (BAAS) partner. Through this initiative, we are building an integrated system of electric transportation. It will have separate electrical outlets and battery changing stations. So the goods can be transported smoothly.
Transportation of goods in India
We strive to make electric transportation of heavy goods commercially affordable by bringing together all our electric transportation related services and technologies. Through ‘AMPstar’ we aim to revolutionize the way goods are transported across India. These first 100 trucks are an important step in that direction,” said Sumit Mittal, CEO, JSW Greentech Limited.
“At JSW Cement, we are committed to making industrial operations greener and more efficient. The introduction of 100 electric trucks of ‘AMPSTAR’ is an important step in this direction. This will help in reducing carbon emissions from freight transport. Also, the movement of goods in our supply chain will continue.
Integrated Electric Transport System
An integrated electric transport system is being set up with battery swapping facilities. This will all enable us to reduce dependence on diesel, reduce emissions and achieve green development goals. While doing this, we are also taking care that there is no impact on operational efficiency,” said Narinder Kahlon, Finance Director, JSW Cement.
The ‘AMPstar’ vehicles will be manufactured at JSW Greentech’s new integrated manufacturing plant. The factory is being set up on about 90 acres of land in Auric, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Maharashtra. The factory will have the capacity to manufacture 15,000 electric buses and trucks every year. There will also be an automated production line for the truck’s cabin and an integrated system for batteries. The research and development center of ‘JSW Greentech’ in Pune will also provide technical support to the factory.
Required for charging by company
The ‘AMPstar’ vehicles will have power options ranging from 150 kW to 500 kW. Customers can either purchase the vehicle outright or lease it. Battery-as-a-Service (BAAS) scheme will also be an option. Apart from this, other options of vehicle ownership and usage will also be available. The company will also provide necessary charging facilities, financial assistance and after sales service. After tractor trucks, the company plans to include tippers and fixed body dumpers in the ‘AMPstar’ vehicle range.
