In a significant boost to India’s indigenous navigation capabilities, the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) today successfully launched the NVS-03 satellite aboard its Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle GSLV-F18. The mission placed the satellite precisely into its intended orbit, marking another proud milestone for the country’s space programme.
“Mission Success! GSLV-F18 has successfully placed NVS-03 in the intended orbit. Congratulations!” ISRO announced shortly after the launch.
NVS-03 is the third satellite in ISRO’s next-generation Navigation Satellite series, designed to strengthen the Navigation with Indian Constellation (NavIC) system. NavIC provides accurate positioning, navigation, and timing services across India and a region extending approximately 1,500 km beyond its borders.
The satellite carries an indigenous atomic clock along with additional clocks and introduces the L1 signal band in addition to the existing L5 and S-band signals, enhancing both reliability and accessibility for civilian and strategic users.
