Under the Indian Aircraft Rules, 2026, the government has got the right to intervene in airfares in exceptional circumstances. In the new rules, it has also been made mandatory to provide information about all charges during ticket booking.
Tezzbuzz Desk– The central government has taken a big step for the passengers traveling by air. The government has notified the Indian Aircraft Rules, 2026. Under these, in any emergency or extraordinary situation, the government will be able to directly intervene in the ticket fares of airlines. The move aims to protect the interests of passengers and increase transparency in airfares.
According to Rule 192, if the government feels that in any extraordinary situation it is necessary to intervene regarding fares in the interest of the general public, then it can issue written instructions to the airlines. However, these instructions will be as per the circumstances and can be implemented only for the prescribed period.
Under the new rules, it will also be necessary to give clear information about different charges to the passengers while booking tickets. Airlines will have to display details of all charges, including base fare, taxes and cancellation charges, on their websites and digital platforms. This will make it easier for passengers to understand the total ticket price and help reduce confusion regarding hidden charges.

Additionally, airlines operating scheduled flights will have to fix fares keeping in mind operating costs and other relevant factors. They will have to give complete information related to their fare to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). Fare information will also have to be made available on the airlines' website and other digital platforms.
DGCA will monitor these fares. These rules are considered important to protect the interests of passengers amid rising oil prices and increase in fares in extraordinary circumstances. However, government intervention will not automatically be implemented in every situation, but can be done as per the prescribed rules when needed.
