Jaipur. Eight laborers died due to electrocution during road construction work in Chapoli village of Udaipurwati area of Jhunjhunu district of Rajasthan. Many other people also got burnt in this accident.
According to the police, the incident occurred when a machine mixing gravel during road construction came in contact with a high-tension power line passing overhead. Electric current spread in the machine, due to which the workers working there got affected. The deceased are said to be residents of Mandavara and Chapoli. At the same time, three women are included among the five injured.
Confirming the incident, Udaipurwati police station in-charge Rampal said that the workers got electrocuted when the machine came in contact with the high-voltage power line. After the accident the injured were taken for treatment. This incident sparked huge anger among the local people, who gathered at the spot and protested. Villagers expressed anger over the deaths and demanded accountability of those responsible for ensuring safety at the construction site. The villagers also staged a protest there.
After the incident, police and other officials reached the spot. More information is yet to come regarding the identity of the dead, condition of the injured and the reasons for the accident. Expressing grief over the incident, Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma posted on Instagram, “The news of untimely death of workers due to electrocution in the accident in Jhunjhunu is sad.
Instructions have been given to the concerned officials to provide proper treatment to the injured and all possible assistance to the affected families immediately and to investigate the incident. I pray to God to grant peace to the departed souls at His feet, speedy recovery to the injured and strength to the bereaved family members to bear this immense sorrow.”
Former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot said in X Post, “The painful death of many laborers due to electrocution in Chapoli in Udaipurwati, Jhunjhunu is very sad and heart-touching. It is necessary to investigate this entire episode to find out how this accident happened during road construction and who is responsible for these deaths. It is heart-wrenching to think what the families who lost their relatives in this accident must be going through.
The government should ensure that proper compensation and all possible assistance is provided to the families of the deceased. May God grant peace to the departed souls at His feet and give strength to the bereaved family to bear this unbearable loss.”
