There will be time bound disposal of complaints of students in medical colleges, three-tier system will be implemented.

Lucknow. The Medical Education Department has taken a new initiative to solve the problems of students studying in government and autonomous medical colleges of the state. Now a three-tier grievance redressal system will be developed to resolve the academic, administrative and hostel problems of the students. Its objective is to create a safe, transparent and student-friendly educational environment in medical colleges.

Under the Student Grievance and Welfare system started on the initiative of Director General, Medical Education and Training, Neha Sharma, a Student Welfare Nodal Officer will be designated in every medical college. This officer will receive the complaints and suggestions of the students and will take forward the process of resolving them. This initiative of the department will provide a systematic platform to the students to present their problems before the institute.

Problems can be registered in the complaint box

Under the new system, student grievance/voice box will be installed in the teaching and educational premises of every medical college. Students will be able to submit their complaints in writing regarding studies, administrative work, hostel, basic facilities, security and other welfare issues.

The nominated nodal officer will open the complaint box daily and enter the complaints received in the prescribed register. After this, action to resolve the problem will be ensured through the concerned department. This will provide an accessible and institutional medium to the students to express their views.

Disposal system at three levels

Three levels have been set for resolution of complaints. In the first phase, the Student Welfare Nodal Officer will receive the complaint and start the process of resolving it. If the problem is not resolved here, then students will be able to present their complaint to the Principal of the Medical College.

If no solution is found even at the Principal level, students will be able to lodge a complaint in the student cell of the Directorate General of Medical Education and Training (DGME). In this way, a mechanism for hearing and monitoring complaints will be prepared from the college level to the Directorate General.

Accountability will increase with transparency

With this initiative of the Medical Education Department, the process of listening to the problems of the students and solving them at the institutional level will be more systematic. Keeping records of complaints, regular review and feedback system will help in increasing transparency. Also, it will be clear to the students as to which next level they can take their complaint if the problem is not resolved.

As per the intention of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, this is being considered an important step towards improving the quality of medical education and creating a better and safe educational environment for the students.
