Glenn Maxwell Retires : Australia's legendary all-rounder Glenn Maxwell has retired from international cricket. The 38-year-old player had retired from ODI cricket in June last year, now he has said goodbye to T20I as well as List A and first-class cricket. He will continue to play for the Melbourne Stars in the Big Bash League (BBL), with whom he is under contract until the end of the 2027–28 season.

Glenn Maxwell has scored 2,897 runs while playing 130 T20I matches for Australia. This is the third highest score for Australia in this format, and their strike rate has been more than 154. He shares the world record of most five centuries in the shortest format with Rohit Sharma. Maxwell told that talks regarding his future were going on for a long time. On 'The Final Word' podcast, Maxwell said, “We had several conversations before and after the T20 World Cup. It was a very open conversation. There was no pressure from the Australian team management and we decided to keep the door open for the future. There were some series coming up in which they were looking towards the future.
Expressing hope for a farewell match, he said, “I think there was a small hope or discussion that maybe I might get a farewell match at the MCG. But I completely understand the direction they are taking with this squad. I think there will be a lot of changes in the next 12 to 24 months, especially with the 2028 Olympics in mind. They have to keep an eye on some of the young players and make sure they experience the pressure of international cricket. Met – a pressure that perhaps is not always found in BBL matches.”
