Russell Westbrook feted by Thunder after legendary 18-year career

There is no denying that Russell Westbrook is one of the greatest players in Oklahoma City Thunder history.

Westbrook spent the first 11 seasons of his career with Oklahoma City and became a fan favorite due to his gritty style of play and his passion and love for the city.

That love and passion that Westbrook gave to the organization and to the city will be returned to him later this season after an announcement on Monday.

Russell Westbrook will have his number retired by the Thunder

A video posted across the Thunder’s social media channels Monday afternoon revealed that the franchise will be retiring Westbrook’s #0 later this season.

The ceremony will be held on Feb. 7, and Westbrook was overcome with emotion when OKC general manager Sam Presti made the announcement to Westbrook while on a panel together.

“Many players make an impact, but only great players leave a legacy,” Presti said. “Oklahomans consider him one of their own and his number will be raised to the rafters in Oklahoma City forever.”
