Technology Desk: Digital design platform Canva has announced mass layoffs. The company is going to lay off about 22 percent of its employees. About 1,271 employees will lose their jobs due to this decision. It is being told that the company has taken this step due to increasing expenditure on Artificial Intelligence (AI) and automation. However, Canva has also prepared a special relief package for employees who lost their jobs. The company will give them free MacBook, 6 months salary and one year LinkedIn Premium subscription. Apart from this, employees will also be helped in finding new jobs and starting their own business.
Why are there such big layoffs happening in Canva?
Canva CEO Melanie Parkins informed employees about this decision via email. In his memo he told that the company is currently going through difficult times. He also apologized for the trouble and grief caused to the employees affected by the layoffs.
The company employs about 5,700 employees in 37 countries of the world. India is also included in this. However, information has not been revealed yet as to how many employees will lose their jobs from which country.

Usually companies give severance packages to employees during layoffs. This includes a few months' salary and other financial benefits. But Canva has made separate arrangements for its employees.
According to the company, all 1,271 employees affected by the layoffs will be able to keep their MacBooks. The CEO says that the company wants the employees to have laptops to work even after leaving the job.
He believes that many employees do not have their own personal laptop. In such a situation, MacBook can prove helpful in his next career. However, information about which model will be given to the employees has not been given yet.
LinkedIn Premium will be available for free for one year
Canva will also offer one year of free LinkedIn Premium subscription to employees who lose their jobs. With this, employees will be able to get help in finding a new job, expanding their professional network and preparing for interviews.
Apart from this, the company will also employ its Talent Acquisition team in this work. This team will review the resumes of the employees. It will also help in interview preparation and practice. The aim of the company is that the employees who have lost their jobs can get new employment as soon as possible.
6 months salary and healthcare facility
Financial assistance will also be provided to the employees affected by retrenchment. According to the CEO, employees will get at least 6 months' salary. Along with this, all the benefits available legally will also be given.
The company has said that this assistance will be provided to the affected employees working in different countries. Apart from this, healthcare related facilities will also be a part of the package.
You will get a grant of 10 thousand dollars to start a business
Canva has also announced the launch of the Canva Collective Fund for employees who have lost their jobs. Under this, a grant of 10 thousand US dollars i.e. about Rs 8.9 lakh will be given to those employees who want to start their own business.
This will give employees an opportunity to start their own work instead of a job. This step of the company is being considered as an attempt to provide financial and career related help to the employees after retrenchment.
