Dakar, November 4:

India’s medal tally at the 2026 Youth Olympic Games increased to three after Rajkumari Lanchenbi Chanu secured bronze in the women’s Changquan combined event in wushu on Tuesday.

Chanu finished third in the final with a combined score of 18.039 points. She recorded 8.723 points in Gunshu and 9.316 in Changquan to claim a place on the podium in Dakar, Senegal.

The Indian athlete had entered the final in strong form, finishing second in the preliminary round with 17.982 points. Egypt’s Sondos Sonbol topped the qualification round with 18.386 points, ahead of Chanu.

The bronze medal added to India’s growing medal count at the Games. Khushbu Rajakbhai Darjada had earlier won silver in the women’s 63kg judo event, while swimmer Dhinidhi Desinghu secured bronze in the women’s 100m freestyle competition on Monday.

Chanu’s achievement also marked an important moment for Indian wushu, with the sport making its debut as an official medal event at the Dakar Youth Olympic Games. Her podium finish gives the discipline greater visibility among India’s emerging sporting talent.

With three medals across wushu, judo and swimming, India has made an encouraging start to its campaign in Dakar. Chanu’s bronze is particularly significant as it places an Indian athlete on the podium in a sport making its first appearance as a medal event at the Youth Olympics.
