Actually, this entire matter is related to the ongoing discord within the Meghalaya Cricket Association. According to the report of The Indian Express, the team playing in the first 3 matches of Ranji Trophy was selected by the Apex Council of Meghalaya Cricket Association (MCA). There was a dispute going on between the Apex Council and Board Chairman James Sangma. The controversy was over the suspension of association secretary Reynolds Kharkamani, who is accused of allegedly suppressing sexual harassment complaints. This dispute has been going on for the last several months, which has even reached the High Court. The court ruled in favor of James Sangma, while declared the team selected by the Apex Council invalid. This team had already played 3 rounds.
Kharkamani’s faction had appealed, but the High Court upheld the suspension and declared all resolutions passed under it illegal. After this, Sangma’s group hastily selected a new team, in which all the players selected by the Apex Council were excluded. Due to this, the future of many players is in danger.

According to the report, BCCI has come to know about this entire incident. Board Secretary Devjit Saikia told The Indian Express, ‘A case is going on in the Meghalaya High Court between the chairman’s group and the secretary (Kharkamani). Recently the court ruled in favor of the Speaker’s group and they chose the team.
Manager received threat
According to the report, Meghalaya players said that the team manager was threatened during this entire controversy. After this he left the team. At the same time, the team captain also complained to the match referee about the threats being received by the players. After this the referee also changed his hotel. At around 11 pm, the players were informed that the new team had been registered with the approval of BCCI. Despite this, the players of the old squad reached the field the next morning, but found the dressing room there closed. After this the police had to be called. Later James Sangma apologized to the players, after which the dressing room was opened.
