UP Roadways buses will now be operated with AI: Network of 120 depots will be connected at a cost of Rs 30 crore, waiting time for passengers will be less.

Lucknow, Read: A major step has been taken to modernize and simplify the bus services of Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UP Roadways). Now the operation and control of roadways buses across the state will be done through Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology. About Rs 30 crore will be spent on this entire project, under which AI based depot management and bus operation planning system will be developed. Uttar Pradesh Transport Corporation has invited official tenders for the implementation of this hi-tech project.

14,300 buses of 120 depots will be centralized, passengers will get the facility every 15 minutes.

Uttar Pradesh's Minister of State for Transport (Independent Charge) Dayashankar Singh said on Wednesday that at present 120 depots of the Transport Corporation are operating across the state. A fleet of approximately 14,300 buses transports more than 17 lakh passengers to their destinations every day through these depots. With the implementation of the new AI system, the timetable of all the depots will be linked to a single centralized digital platform.

The AI system will accurately analyze the actual number of passengers, demand trends on different routes, travel time and buses available at the depot. If a bus is required every 15 minutes on a busy route, the timing of buses from different depots will be coordinated in such a way that passengers get buses at fixed time intervals without any interruption.

There will be digital management of buses and employees, the income of the corporation will increase.

The new AI system will not be limited to just deciding the routes, but through it, maintenance, servicing, repair works of buses and duties of Drivers & Conductors will also be managed completely digitally. Transport Corporation headquarters and regional officers will monitor the movement of buses and performance of depots from a single dashboard.

According to the Transport Minister, with the improvement in timetable and availability of regular bus services, on one hand the number of passengers will increase, on the other hand there will be an increase in the revenue of the corporation. This ambitious scheme is being implemented under the Intelligent Transport System (ITS) scheme of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways of the Central Government.
