New Delhi: As soon as the festival of Diwali arrives, preparations for cleaning and decoration start in the houses. On this special occasion, people use colorful lights, candles and designer lamps to illuminate their homes. However, the attractive lamps available in the market are sometimes quite expensive. At the same time, there is also the problem of oil spilling from oil lamps and making the floor dirty.
If you want to decorate your home in a low budget this Diwali, then a water decorative lamp can be an attractive option. It can be prepared with the help of some items available at home. However, this lamp does not actually burn without the fuel of oil or wax. In this it is necessary to use suitable fuel with a wick floating on water.
Necessary items to make water lamp
To make a beautiful decorative lamp at home, take a heat tolerant glass vessel, clean water, natural leaves, old nail paint, cotton or Kalave wick, old candle and a heat tolerant wick float. You can also keep spoons and other items for decoration. Be careful not to use pieces of plastic or toothpaste tube to float the wick, as these may melt from the heat.
Easy method of making water lamp at home
1. Decorate the Glass Tumbler
First of all take a clean glass. Make small dots or attractive designs on the outside of the glass with the help of old nail paint. let it dry. After this, fill some clean water in the glass and add natural leaves for decoration. Make sure the leaves stay away from the wick and flame.
Prepare 2 wicks
Now prepare a thin wick from cotton or Kalawa. Set it in a heat tolerant float made specifically for lamps. The float should be such that it remains stable on the surface of the water and prevents the wick from sinking.
3. Coat the wick with wax
Use an old candle kept in the house. Melt the wax carefully with the help of a double boiler. Dip the prepared wick in melted wax, take it out and let it cool. This will form a layer of wax on the wick.
Do not melt wax directly on gas flame. Apart from this, avoid mixing mustard or other oil in wax.
4. Set the lamp on water
Now fill the decorated glass with water and place the prepared float on its surface. Set the wick correctly. Take care that the float is stable and that the decorations in the glass do not come in contact with the flame.
Use it like this in Diwali decoration
You can keep this decorative lamp near Rangoli, in the balcony or in any decorative corner of the house. Different sized glass glasses and colorful decorations can give a beautiful look to the house.
However, never leave a burning lamp unattended. Keep it away from curtains, paper, flowers and other flammable items. It is important to extinguish the lamp before sleeping. If you want to keep your house lit throughout the night, using battery-powered LED candles is a safer option.
This Diwali, with a little creativity and care, you can make home decoration attractive and also reduce the expenditure on expensive decorative lamps.
