Portugal's star football player Ronaldo retires from international football, releases emotional message in video

Portuguese star footballer Ronaldo has retired from international football, having set numerous world records.

Ronaldo holds the world record for scoring most goals among male players

Lisbon. Football legend Cristiano Ronaldo announced on Thursday that he will no longer play for the Portugal national football team, ending his illustrious international career. Ronaldo played in six FIFA World Cups, won the European Championship title and holds the world record for most goals scored by a male player in international football.

His illustrious career, which began more than two decades ago ahead of Euro 2004, however, ended on a disappointing note. He distanced himself from the national team after differences with coach Jorge Jesus. The 41-year-old great player said in a long video message released on social media: “People of Portugal, the day has come when I am handing back the number seven jersey of my national team.

He further said, I never believed that this jersey was only mine, but I had the privilege and responsibility of wearing it for 23 years, maintaining its dignity and carrying it with me in stadiums around the world.
