The IPL 2027 mini-auction race has begun, with all 10 franchises looking to make key decisions regarding their squad. With just the retention list date left, which is on November 17, and the auction on December 16, teams will have to decide which players they can keep and which ones to release.
The retention phase will play an important role for all the franchises, as several big names from around the world and exciting young stars from India can be expected to stay loyal to their teams.
Some franchises might find it an easy task to decide who to retain, while others may have tough decisions to make.
Here is a look at 3 players each IPL franchise can retain for the 2027 mini-auction.
Chennai Super Kings: Ruturaj Gaikwad, Sanju Samson, Shivam Dube
Mumbai Indians: Jasprit Bumrah, Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya
Royal Challengers Bengaluru: Virat Kohli, Rajat Patidar, Bhuvneshwar Kumar
Kolkata Knight Riders: Rinku Singh, Harshit Rana, Varun Chakravarthy
Sunrisers Hyderabad: Abhishek Sharma, Heinrich Klaasen, Ishan Kishan
Rajasthan Royals: Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Dhruv Jurel
Gujarat Titans: Shubman Gill, Sai Sudharsan, Kagiso Rabada
Punjab Kings: Shreyas Iyer, Prabhsimran Singh, Arshdeep Singh
Delhi Capitals: Axar Patel, KL Rahul, Tristan Stubbs
Lucknow Super Giants: Nicholas Pooran, Mitchell Marsh, Mayank Yadav
While some top international superstars will surely play a major role, some new young Indian talent may influence teams as well. However, there will be a balance to be struck between experience and potential.
The Royal Challengers Bengaluru are unlikely to look outside of Virat Kohli and Rajat Patidar to build their batting attack. Both of these players have played a huge role in the franchise's side so far and may be high on the list of players they want to keep. Bhuvneshwar Kumar will also add a lot of experience with his bowling.
The Mumbai Indians have a fairly straightforward retention list. Jasprit Bumrah is a must-keep due to his role as the star bowler. Suryakumar Yadav continues to be one of the most influential batsmen. With captain Hardik Pandya also playing an all-round role, he could easily be the third player they want to keep.

The Chennai Super Kings will want to retain their captain Ruturaj Gaikwad. They may also look to keep Sanju Samson, who came into the side via a trade before last season. He has been a big part of their long term plan and despite having a disappointing season, he could be one they want to keep. Shivam Dube will also add some power in the middle order.
The Gujarat Titans should look to keep Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan at the top of their order after they were consistent. Kagiso Rabada will add some experience to their attack.
The Sunrisers Hyderabad have one of the most explosive batting line-ups. Abhishek Sharma, Heinrich Klaasen and Ishan Kishan provide a strong, aggressive top and middle order. Keeping all three will mean they can keep their attacking nature.
The Rajasthan Royals may look to keep their young Indian core. They have had an exciting addition with Vaibhav Sooryavanshi. They already have a solid trio in Yashasvi Jaiswal and Dhruv Jurel to provide quality and potential going forward. Keeping these three will give them a solid base.
Shreyas Iyer will be key to the Punjab Kings' plans, with him becoming their captain. Prabhsimran Singh has provided great performances at the top of the order, and Arshdeep Singh is a vital bowler.
The Kolkata Knight Riders will have a few decisions to make. Rinku Singh adds a valuable option in the middle order. Harshit Rana provides pace, and Varun Chakravarthy is an effective mystery spinner so they may look to keep them.
The Delhi Capitals may look to keep a mix of experience and foreign firepower. Axar Patel is a key all-rounder and leader. KL Rahul provides consistency in the batting. Tristan Stubbs can provide acceleration in the middle and death overs.
The Lucknow Super Giants could have one of the most interesting retention situations. Nicholas Pooran and Mitchell Marsh are options. Mayank Yadav provides fast pace and could be an appealing long-term investment. However, considering the reported player movement, they will have some interesting decisions to make.
Despite the players mentioned above being potential retention targets, the final decisions will come down to each team's strategy and how much money it has to spend at the auction.
