The move signals Dream11’s next phase of evolution after the ban on online real-money gaming last year disrupted the platform’s paid fantasy sports business
This comes as Dream11 has been rethinking many of its newer bets. In the past year, the startup has shut down Dream Money, Dream Play and FanCode’s sports merchandise business
Erstwhile real money gaming (RMG) giant Dream11’s cofounder and CEO Harsh Jain has hinted at plans to launch a revamped version of the platform by 2026-end.
In a post on social media platform X, Jain said that the “brand new Dream11” would be built by sports fans and for sports fans. He did not disclose the upcoming platform’s features, commercial model or a specific launch date.
“A brand new Dream11 is launching (at the) end of Dec – by sports fans, for sports fans. Stay tuned…,” said Jain in his post.
The move signals Dream11’s next phase of evolution after the ban on online real-money gaming last year disrupted the platform’s paid fantasy sports business. While the teaser points to a product overhaul, it remains unclear how substantially the new offering will differ from its existing services.
This comes more than a year after the Parliament passed the Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Bill, 2025, which prohibited online real money games and restricted their promotion and advertising.
Following the legislation, Dream11 discontinued paid contests and pivoted to a watch-along platform where users can follow gameplays of prominent content creators. It has also been exploring alternative ways to engage sports fans.
Last year, parent Dream Sports forayed into the wealth tech space under Dream Money and began offering mutual funds, digital gold, fixed deposits, and loans. It later also forayed into stockbroking with DreamStreet and forayed into the SaaS space with Dream Horizon.
However, it has been rethinking many of its newer bets. The startup shut down Dream Money in June this year. Dream Sports also quietly shut FanCode’s sports merchandise business earlier this year amid persistent issues with commercial viability. It also shut down its AI-powered sports performance analytics app Dream Play in June this year.
Nevertheless, the startup’s portfolio still remains substantial. FanCode continues to operate as a sports streaming platform, while DreamCricket represents its push into AAA gaming. It also has its investment platform DreamStreet.
Beyond the business challenges, Dream Sports is also facing GST dues of more than ₹20,000 Cr. In a blow to the company, the Supreme Court (SC), earlier this year, also upheld the tax authorities’ move to impose a 28% retrospective GST on real money online gaming companies over the full face value of bets placed through their platforms.
