Salman Khan’s ‘Maatrubhumi’ delayed again, set for December 4 release

Salman Khan’s upcoming film Maatrubhumi: May War Rest in Peace faced another change in its release schedule, with the makers announcing December 4, 2026, as its new theatrical date. The announcement came during the film’s trailer launch in Mumbai on November 6.

The film had earlier been scheduled to arrive in cinemas on November 20. However, the release was pushed back just hours before the trailer launch, despite promotional material already being prepared with the earlier date.

According to a report by India Todaythe makers had finalised the November 20 date during a meeting a few days earlier. The team had also completed preparations for the trailer launch and promotional campaign before the last-minute change.

A source told the publication that the team had to make quick changes to the promotional material.

“All publicity items were also ready. But just a couple of hours before they could go live with the trailer launch, there were certain unprecedented changes,” the source said.

The source further said that the team had updated the trailer, posters and banners following the decision. Some promotional displays at the event reportedly had the November 20 date covered with black tape.

Maatrubhumi was initially announced as Battle of Galwan and drew inspiration from the June 2020 clash between Indian and Chinese troops in the Galwan Valley. The project later received a new title as the makers changed their approach to the story.

Salman Khan portrayed Colonel Bikkumalla Santosh Babu, who led the 16 Bihar Regiment during the confrontation. The officer was posthumously awarded the Maha Vir Chakra for his bravery.

Chitrangda Singh played the female lead, while Mukesh Rishi, Ankur Bhatia, Zeyn Shaw and Abhilash Chaudhary appeared in other important roles. Vijay Raaz was also reportedly associated with the film as its narrator.

The film had initially been planned for an April release but was postponed. Reports linked the delay to changes and reshoots involving its subject and the certification process.

With the latest announcement, Maatrubhumi: May War Rest in Peace was scheduled to reach theatres on December 4, 2026.
