India bluntly in UN, countries sending troops should get bigger role in decisions

While clarifying its position on peacekeeping operations in the United Nations, India has said that the countries whose troops are deployed on the ground in these missions, should get proper participation in the process of formulating the mandate of the mission and taking decisions. India said that the opinion of troop contributing countries who understand the challenges at the ground level should not be ignored.

Tezzbuzz Desk- On behalf of India at the United Nations, Colonel Tarunendra Pratap Singh said that peace operations can be effective only when there is a solid political process behind them. He stressed that it is not appropriate to decide the mandate of any mission without adequate consultation with the countries sending troops.

India has so far deployed more than 3 lakh soldiers in more than 50 UN peacekeeping missions. During this period, 184 soldiers of India have lost their lives for world peace under the Blue Helmet. India also expressed concern about attacks on peacekeepers. The Indian representative said that those who attack UN peacekeepers should not be spared and accountability should be held in such cases.

India also called for rapid integration of advanced technology and renewable energy solutions into peacekeeping operations. According to India, this will increase the operational efficiency of operations, better monitoring of the situation and will help in reducing logistics challenges in difficult areas.
