Jaipur. Regarding the quality and cleanliness of food items in the city, the Food Safety Department on Friday raided the shops of Rawat Mishthan Bhandar located on Ajmer Road and Narayan Singh Circle.
During inspection, the team found live and dead insects, flies and cockroaches in the bakery products. Necessary information including manufacturing and expiry dates were also not marked on packaged sweets and other food items.
During the action, the team collected samples of various food items and sent them for testing and got the expired items destroyed.
The food safety team first inspected the shop located on Ajmer Road. Here, necessary information including packing, manufacturing and expiry date was not found on the packaged sweets kept in the sales counter and chiller.
Necessary details were also not marked on the prepared food items. The team sampled Kesar Pista Burfi from here.
During inspection, dead cockroaches and flies were found under the bakery counter. Remnants of food items and dirt were also found on the ground at the sweet making place.
Deficiencies in cleanliness were also found at the place where raw materials were kept. Food items like Raj Kachori and Dahi Puri were being served on newspaper.
Live and dead insects were found in the hazelnut milk and roasted choco almond handcrafted chocolates prepared and packed in the name of Rawat Mishtan Bhandar in the cold storage. Even on the packets of these products, the required information as per the Food Safety and Standards Act was not complete.
After this the team inspected the second shop of Rawat Mishthan Bhandar located at Narayan Singh Circle. A restaurant was found operating here without a valid food license.
The investigation found several expired food items including pizza toppings, bread, pav, fruit cocktail, MDH chana masala, baby corn, red chili sauce, green tea, sweet corn and cream. According to the team, these ingredients were being used to prepare food items.
Investigation also revealed that valid food license of the required category for operating the restaurant, repacking food items and making samosa-kachori was not available.
On this the team immediately stopped the operation of the restaurant. Also instructed that restaurant operation, samosa-kachori manufacturing and re-packing of food items should not be done until a valid license is obtained for the related activities.
Two samples of Exotic Dark Chocolatier Chocolate and Cashew Pista Roll were taken for testing from the establishment located at Narayan Singh Circle. Apart from this, expired food items found there were destroyed on the spot.
The action by the food safety team revealed several irregularities related to handling, hygiene, packaging and valid licenses of food items at both the establishments. Further action will be taken after the test report of the samples comes.
