Salman Khan pushes back on ‘Ramayana’s Rs 4,000 crore and VFX narrative

Salman Khan has said people should talk about Ramayana’s story, not its budget and VFX.

The 60-year-old star was speaking at the trailer launch of his upcoming film Maatrubhumi in Mumbai on November 6.

“I just think that Ramayana ka charcha should be on Ramayana and not on VFX and cost of production. I think this narrative should be 4000 aur VFX, VFX, VFX. I just don't think that that is correct,” he said, adding that, “I just think that Ramayana ka charcha should be on Ramayana – Ram, Ravana, Sita.”

Ramayana opened to Rs 64.85 crore net in India on Day 1. That is ahead of the openings of Pathan and Animaland it’s the second-biggest Bollywood opening of 2026 so far, behind only Dhurandhar: The Revenge.

The film saw a 25% drop on day 2, but overall box office collections are expected to get a lift after Diwali.

On the other hand, Salman also announced that Maatrubhumi will finally release on December 4, at the same event.

Directed by Apoorva Lakhia, the film is about the Galwan Valley clash between Indian and Chinese troops.

It was first meant to come out in April but was postponed indefinitely. The makers also looked at other dates, including the Independence Day weekend, but it didn’t make it to theatres then either.
