Chris Lynn completes one-month suspension after testing positive for cocaine metabolite

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) batsman Chris Lynn has served a one-month ban after he failed an anti-doping test after returning a positive for a cocaine metabolite in England's domestic T20 Blast league earlier this year. The Australian admitted to using the party drug in July. Cricket authorities have accepted that the substance was taken outside of competition and was not related to any performance-enhancing use.

The 36-year-old was playing for Northamptonshire and failed an anti-doping test on July 18 after the county had a successful run at the T20 Blast Finals Day. He was suspended provisionally on July 31 but admitted to taking cocaine between July 15 and 16. He faced two anti-doping charges from the English cricket governing body, but one was dropped after it was found that the level of metabolite was below the limit set by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA).

Chris Lynn's suspension reduced after completing substance abuse program

The regulator initially handed down a three-month ban but this was reduced to one after the former Australia international agreed to undertake a substance abuse program that he successfully finished on August 30.

Lynn has not played professional cricket since the start of his ban. The 36-year-old remains unsure about his future in the near term as he has failed to sign with any BBL franchises for this season.

Having served his suspension, he is now eligible to play professional cricket again. However, he has yet to confirm he will play for any franchise and will be hopeful of finding a spot ahead of the new BBL season.

Chris Lynn's IPL and T20 ties

Lynn is a familiar face to Indian cricket fans, having played in the Indian Premier League. He came into the light during his time with Kolkata Knight Riders, firing through the top of the order.

In 2017, Lynn hit one of his best performances in the competition smashing 93 not out from just 41 balls against Gujarat Lions. He formed an incredible 184-run opening stand with Gautam Gambhir to help KKR win.

After his successful spell with Kolkata, Lynn moved to Mumbai Indians but struggled to establish himself in the side.

He has played four ODI's and 18 T20I's for Australia but has established himself as one of the most explosive T20 hitters in franchise cricket. Playing in several leagues both domestically and internationally.
