'Government is stealing petrol from public vehicles', Rahul Gandhi targets government on E-20 petrol

New Delhi: Former Congress President and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi has accused the Central Government on mixing ethanol in petrol, saying that the public is paying for expensive petrol and more than the prescribed limit of ethanol is being put in the tank of their car.

On Saturday, Rahul Gandhi wrote on social media He said that during testing, the ethanol content in the sample of Indian Oil Corporation (IOCL) was found to be 31.2 percent and that of Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) was 30.5 percent. He claimed that samples of government and private companies including IOCL, HPCL, Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL), Nayara and Shell were found to have ethanol blending exceeding the prescribed limit.

The Congress leader alleged that the quantity of ethanol was not even mentioned in the reports of the companies' own laboratories. He said that due to this, drivers are getting more ethanol in their tanks despite paying expensive petrol, which may affect the mileage of the vehicles and may require frequent repairs. At petrol pumps, it is not even made clear as to what is being put in the tank and consumers have no option.

Rahul Gandhi questioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi as to what is actually being filled in the country's tank and how much ethanol is actually there in petrol. He demanded action against companies mixing more than 20 percent ethanol. He said that his challenge of open debate given to the Prime Minister still stands and this issue can also be included in the debate. He questioned who is actually benefiting from the government's policies.
