Kochi. The Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) has prepared to organize a demonstration and public meeting on Saturday, November 7 in Kochi, Kerala, in protest against the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter list. Many activists, including actor Prakash Raj and organization founder Abhijeet Deepke, are expected to attend the event titled 'Jantar-Mantar at Kochi'. The demand for withdrawal of SIR process will be raised through demonstration.
According to the organizers, the protest march will start from Marine Drive at 4 pm and reach Rajendra Maidan. A public meeting will be organized here. The organization has appealed to youth, students and people associated with civil society to participate in the program. Prakash Raj and Abhijeet Deepke have released video messages on social media urging people to participate in the protest peacefully.
Activists will gather to demand cancellation of SIR
CJP says special intensive revision of voter list should be cancelled. The organization has already announced a protest against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar in Delhi on this issue. Now preparations are on to take this campaign to Kerala. The organization's national secretary Afreen Nawaz and South India in-charge Vijay Reddy Mallangi and other officials are also said to participate in the programme.
Action was taken during the demonstration in Delhi
Earlier, police action was taken against CJP leaders and workers during an attempt to protest at Jantar Mantar in Delhi. On October 13, Abhijeet Deepke, Ashutosh Ranka and Saurav Das were detained in connection with an attempt to protest without permission. Later, Ashutosh Ranka and Saurav Das were arrested and sent to judicial custody in the case related to entering Jantar Mantar and hoisting the tricolor there. Both were released after about seven days on October 21.
During their release, both of them had given a written assurance to abide by the prescribed conditions and not to organize a demonstration there until Jantar Mantar is re-notified as a protest site. After this development the organization decided to continue its protest at other places.
Police preparations for the demonstration
According to officials of the Special Branch of Kochi Police, CJP workers have met police officials regarding preparations for the event. Adequate police force is being deployed to prevent any untoward incident during the event. The organizers have appealed to keep the event peaceful.
