Sonia’s Memoirs
While there will be no official launch of Sonia Gandhi’s memoirs, the book will be available at bookstores from 10 November 2026. There is a great deal of interest in the book, especially after her Instagram post claiming that the book will create a “tamasha”. However, Sonia’s politics has not been of the shock and awe variety (except the time when she refused the PM’s post).
Instead of disruption, she has been known to favour consistent continuity, which makes one wonder about the “tamasha” bits. That apart, senior journalist and columnist, Javed Ansari recalls meeting her in Parliament along with some other journalists soon after Natwar Singh’s memoirs. When they asked her reaction about what the former Congress leader had written about her decision not to take up the PM’s post, Sonia had replied with an enigmatic smile, saying, “wait for my memoirs.” Well, that wait is now over.
On another note while the book is titled “Belonging”, it was but natural to headline a story about her book as “The Battle of Belonging”. However, that also happens to be the title of one of Shashi Tharoor’s books. When this was pointed out to the erudite Congress leader, he quipped saying, “all in a good cause”.
A Political Wedding
The wedding of Manpreet Badal’s daughter Rhea, with Dr Karan Singh’s grandson Martand Singh created quite a buzz in the capital. It was a well-attended event, for apart from the Prime Minister, leaders cutting across party lines were invited. The wedding reception was hosted at the residence of Jai Inder Kaur, daughter of Captain Amarinder Singh, former Punjab Chief Minister. Incidentally, Jai’s son Nirvaan is married to another of Dr Karan Singh’s granddaughters, Mriganka.
In fact, Manpreet Badal is also related to Sukhbir Singh Badal. There had been an estrangement between the cousins, which had led to Manpreet joining the BJP. But now it seems as if all is well once again. One of the wedding functions was hosted at the residence of Harsimrat Kaur Badal in Delhi and Sukhbir was there as well to welcome the guests. Seeing the bonhomie between the SAD and the BJP leaders, it does appear as if the tie-up is but an announcement away. As is perhaps a cabinet berth or two for the SAD?
‘It’s Done Bro’
While on the subject of weddings, one must congratulate J&K CM Omar Abdullah and journalist Nidhi Razdan who tied the knot last week. The wedding created quite a buzz, even though the announcement was made post facto. The couple posted pictures, with Omar keeping it simple stating that, “A New Journey Began Yesterday”. But ever the journalist, Nidhi posted a very catchy caption, stating: “It’s Done Bro.” The caption was of course a throwback to Salman Khan’s meme that went viral during the NEET protests.
