A big update has come regarding SIR in UP… Why will the names of 2.89 crore voters be deleted, know the reason behind this.

Lucknow: The deadline for Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter list in Uttar Pradesh ended on Friday. The Election Commission had extended its date twice earlier, but extension was not given for the third time. With this the process of filling and submitting the calculation form has been completed.

Names of 2.89 crore voters will be removed: At present, a total of 15.44 crore names are registered in the voter list of the state. After SIR, the process of removing 2.89 crore names is going on. At the same time, notices will be issued to 1.11 crore voters.

Due to these reasons the name will be removed from the list

  • 1.26 crore voters transferred
  • 46 lakh dead
  • 23.70 lakh duplicates
  • 83.73 lakh absent
  • 9.57 lakh in other category

    Now the draft list will be released: Uttar Pradesh Chief Electoral Officer Navdeep Rinwa said that the draft voter list will be released on December 31. Claims and objections can be filed on this from 31 December 2025 to 30 January 2026. Decisions on calculation forms and disposal of claims and objections will be made in the notice phase from December 31 to February 21, 2026. After this, the final voter list will be published on 28 February 2026.

    Door-to-door verification: It is noteworthy that the date of SIR was extended for the second time from December 11 to December 26. During this period, the Election Commission launched a special campaign in two weeks to find those voters who were in the category of transferred, dead, duplicate or absent. Along with Booth Level Officers (BLOs), Booth Level Agents (BLAs) of political parties were also deployed booth-wise in all the districts. Re-verification was done by going door to door, so that there was no scope for any kind of irregularities.

    Only 9 percent verification remains: On December 11, the number of voters whose names were struck off was estimated at 2.96 crore, out of which about 7 lakh voters were traced during re-verification. After this, further process was decided on the basis of revised data. 91% matching with the 2003 list. The Election Commission has also completed the mapping of the current list with the voter list of 2003. According to the Commission, about 91 percent voters have been successfully matched. This matching was done on the basis of names of voters as well as names of parents, grandparents. Now only about 9 percent of voters remain to be verified.

    Special campaign for new voters: He said that along with this, the Election Commission has also launched a special campaign to add new voters to the list. Eligible citizens can fill the form online or submit application offline through BLO. The Election Commission has made available complete information about the documents required to become a new voter on its official website and a detailed advisory has also been issued in this regard. Now after the completion of the SIR process, all eyes are on the draft voter list to be released on December 31, on the basis of which the direction of further election preparations will be decided.
