Copyright charges against CSK
Controversy started on March 1, 2026 when CSK posted a video to launch their new jersey, which used audio tracks from Rajinikanth films, particularly the scene of MS Dhoni’s arrival at the camp. Sun TV Network alleged in its complaint that CSK exploited the popularity of Rajinikanth and Anirudh Ravichander’s music in South India and used their copyrighted works to boost sales of their Rs 2,399 jerseys and other items.

Although CSK removed the controversial video after receiving the email on March 1 and later re-shared it with changes, the plaintiffs have requested the High Court to restrain CSK from using such content and disclose the commercial income from the promotion. Following this development, other IPL franchises have also advised their content teams to be careful while using audio tracks for social media posts.
