Under this scholarship, he will be given financial assistance every year from class 9th to 12th, so that his studies can continue without any interruption.

Kalpana has got this opportunity under the National Means cum Merit Scholarship Scheme (NMMS). The objective of this scheme is to encourage economically weak but talented students to continue their studies.

What is NMMS Scholarship Scheme

NMMSS is an important scholarship scheme of the Central Government. Its main objective is to help those students who are good in studies but feel difficulty in continuing further studies due to weak financial condition.

Through this scheme, the government wants that meritorious students should not leave their studies midway due to financial lack. Especially after class 8, many students leave studies due to financial problems. NMMS scheme motivates such students to continue their studies till intermediate.

How much financial assistance is available?

Under this scheme, selected students are given a scholarship of Rs 1,000 every month. In this way, they get total financial assistance of Rs 12,000 in a year.

This assistance is available from class 9 to 12 i.e. for a total of four years. In this way, a student gets a total assistance of up to Rs 48,000 in the entire period. This amount is sent directly to the student’s bank account so that transparency is maintained and the student can get financial assistance on time.

Which students get the benefit

This scholarship is especially for students studying in government and government-aided schools. Some important eligibility conditions have been prescribed for this.

First of all it is necessary for the student to study in class 8. Apart from this, it is necessary to have at least 55 percent marks in class 7. This limit has been kept at 50 percent for students belonging to Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe category.

Along with this, the annual income of the student’s family should not exceed Rs 3.5 lakh. Students fulfilling these conditions can apply for this scholarship.

How is selection done?

Selection for NMMS scholarship is done on the basis of a written examination. There are two main parts in this examination. The first part is the Mental Ability Test, in which questions related to the students’ ability to think, understand and reason are asked. The second part is Scholastic Aptitude Test, which includes questions related to mathematics, science and social sciences.

Students who perform well in both these examinations are included in the merit list. After this the selected students are given the benefit of scholarship.

The success of Moradabad student Kalpana is an example of the fact that big goals can be achieved with hard work and dedication. Such schemes not only provide financial help but also motivate the students to move forward.
