Free legal aid will also be provided to the victims if required,” he assured at the time.

Directly criticizing Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Mamata Banerjee said, “Those who came to power through riots should not teach us democracy.” He referred to the Gujarat riots and questioned the functioning of the BJP. He also hit out at inflation and false promises made by the BJP during elections.

Responding to the criticism leveled by the Left parties, he clarified that the allegation that the population structure of the state has changed since the Trinamool Congress came to power in 2011 is completely baseless. “The opposition is spreading ignorance about history and society and trying to tarnish the image of the state,” he criticized.
